LIFESTYLE PHOTOSHOOTS FOR YOGIS AND YOGA INSTRUCTORS
Yoga photos are a powerful tool to validate the Yogi’s journey and our presence as capable, embodied people. As a yoga instructor myself, I found many yoga practitioners around me were needing photos and biographies to share on social media for their yoga studios and for milestone celebrations of physical advancement and how they feel in their practice. I’ve been fortunate to work with yogis across the Treasure Valley in Boise, Idaho as well as yoga studios such as the former Sage Yoga School covering their Yoga Teacher Training Graduation Ceremonies.
YOGA PHOTOS BY A FELLOW YOGI AND INSTRUCTOR
That’s right, I’m a yoga instructor and it’s my mission to make sure your asanas look as good a s possible. My favorite aspect of yoga photography is celebrating the personal expression of the yogi, while being able to guide posture and alignment so they look their best in each photo. For so many yogis, when they receive their photos, they may find some images unusable if the photographer can’t help the yogi with proper alignment and authentic, comfortable expression. It’s of utmost importance to show up in the yogic space in a way that is authentic but still polished, which is possible when working with a professional photographer who also teaches and practices yoga.
WHAT'S THE BEST PLACE TO HAVE A YOGA PHOTOSHOOT?
When you’re ready to have your own photoshoot, think of the spaces that you would like to shoot, and the type of photoshoot you would like. Some of our most popular yoga photoshoots take place outside at a favorite park or hiking trail. If you’re wanting to utilize a yoga studio for your shoot, it’s important to first check with the studio owner to verify any rental fees you may need to cover, and time considerations for working around the scheduled classes of the studio. Typically, it’s best to schedule your shoot when the foot traffic is low – that is, many of us become a bit nervous when there are people around, and it can be a more pleasant experience with fewer disruptions and a more authentic shoot when left uninterrupted.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO A PHOTOSHOOT?
Wear something you feel confident in, layer, be prepared to practice and hold postures. It’s usually a good idea to bring an extra outfit to your photoshoot, especially if held outdoors as weather, sweat, and the unexpected can put a damper on your style (and we don’t want that!).
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS WILL I GET?
The type of photos you get from your Yoga shoot is up to you. Some people only want postures. Other people only want ambient photos to give the idea of calming yoga ambience and very little direct information about the yogi – such as yoga postures in the far away distance or soothing candles with sound bowls which can be highly useful for social media posts and websites. Some find a mix of ambient yoga photos and asanas is preferable. You’ll define your wants and needs for the photoshoot with me when we have our initial consultation over the phone to get to know each other and plan your shoot.
HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY FINAL PHOTOS?
